In 2026, Community Foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand (CFANZ) commissioned independent researchers BERL to carry out the most comprehensive research yet undertaken on giving in this country.
Giving in Aotearoa NZ surveyed over 3,000 New Zealanders about how they give money and time, what motivates and constrains them, how they think about trust, language and identity, and how they engage (or don't) with more structured and future-focused forms of giving.
A companion report has already set out what this research tells us about one part of that picture: gifts in wills and charitable bequests, prepared for a general sector audience of charities and wealth management professionals. That earlier report, all about bequests, is available here.
This report asks a different question of the same evidence base: what does the full Giving in Aotearoa NZ research tell us that is particularly useful for community foundations - and how might it shape our work over the years ahead?
This report is only available to CFANZ members and our international peer networks - download the report at the link here >>
